Los Lunas Public School District

The Los Lunas Public School District not only serves the children who live in the Village of Los Lunas, but also students who live in the Village of Bosque Farms, the Town of Peralta, Valencia, Tome, Meadow Lake, El Cerro, El Cerro Mission, Isleta Pueblo, and other portions of unincorporated Valencia County.

The district is growing rapidly. When classes began in August, 2001, some 8,500 students were being served in the system with 450 licensed personnel and 400 support staff.

There are 10 elementary schools in the Los Lunas Public School District, serving kindergarten through sixth grade. A comprehensive curriculum offers language arts, reading, math, social studies, health, science, art, music and computer literacy. These elementary schools are: Ann Parish, Bosque Farms, Desert View, Katherine Gallegos; Los Lunas; Peralta; Raymond Gabaldon, Sundance, Tome, and Valencia. Los Lunas Family School serves first through eighth grade students, supporting families who actively homeschool their children.

The two middle schools in Los Lunas School District - Los Lunas and Valencia - offer a balanced curriculum, addressing intellectual and developmental needs, exploratory electives, and comprehensive counseling.

Los Lunas High School and Valencia High School give students the opportunity to enroll in practical, college-bound or advanced placement courses in core content areas.  Strong academic programs are enhanced by music, art, graphic arts, home economics, business, vocational agriculture and auto technology.  Century High School, an alternative high school, prepares " (...)'At-Risk' students to graduate and achieve their maximum potential as prolific members of society". (taken from Century High School Vision Statement).

The Los Lunas School District is one of the largest employers in the Los Lunas area with an operating budget in excess of $29.5 million. Ninety-eight percent of its funding comes directly from the state of New Mexico.
